Recycled Orchestra of Cateura

Environmental engineer Favio Chavez, now music teacher, enlisted the help of Nicolas Gomez a trash picker turned instrument maker, to provide kids and teenagers from the village of Cateura, Paraguay the opportunity to experience an alternative to the life their parents had. With violins made with metal cans, cellos built from oil containers and a drumhead fashioned from discarded X-ray film, Mr. Chávez and his students formed the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura.
